Aftershow with Pekka Kuusisto and Musicians of the Gewandhausorchester
September 29th sees KLASSIK underground continue to break new ground, as the season opens with an aftershow featuring Finnish violinist, composer and conductor Pekka Kuusisto on electric violin.
Well-known for his innovative and fresh approach to classical music, Pekka Kuusisto is one of the most sought-after performers on the world-stage. Currently Artistic Director of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, he also enjoys partnerships with some of the world’s leading ensembles. On Friday September 29th, he will perform works by Thomas Adès and Jean Sibelius as soloist with the Gewandhausorchester. At the conclusion of this concert in the Gewandhaus, he will swap his conventional violin for an electric violin, and will head into the underground Moritzbastei to join musicians of the Gewandhausorchester for what promises to be one of the most exhilarating KLASSIK underground aftershows yet.
In the intimate and atmospheric cavern of the Moritzbastei, musicians of the Gewandhausorchester will perform music of the 17th and 18th centuries by composers including Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. These works will be juxtaposed and interspersed with improvisions on electric violin by Pekka Kuusisto.
Join us for a KLASSIK underground aftershow that traverses sound worlds that are old and new, acoustic and electric, and which promises an unforgettable night of spontaneous music making and improvisation all within the unique setting of the underground Moritzbastei!
